Inpatient Behavioral Health Services
Oro Valley Hospital offers specialized behavioral and mental health services to adults age 21 and older in our community. The adult behavioral health unit is a 17-bed acute inpatient unit dedicated to helping patients with stress, grief or mental illness. Caring staff provides care in a warm, safe environment to help you overcome your current situation.

Located within Oro Valley Hospital, the adult behavioral health program is for adults 21 years of age and older who voluntarily decide they need help addressing psychosocial issues they encounter.
The Oro Valley behavioral health unit may be appropriate if you or a loved one is experiencing an escalation or worsening of ongoing symptoms of any of the following:
- Anxiety
- Change in enjoyment and participation in daily activities
- Change in sleep habits
- Depression
- Disordered thinking
- Grief (not adjusting to the loss of a loved one)
- Increased fear of being alone or being persecuted
- Isolation
- Lack of attention to personal hygiene
- Poor adjustment to change
- Rapid change in weight
What to Expect
Patients are admitted voluntarily. When you become a patient, the medical team will do a thorough evaluation of your physical condition and your mental and cognitive status. You should expect a stay of 10 – 14 days during which you will participate in group and individual therapy sessions.
The Team
- Psychiatrist - The team is headed by psychiatrists who work to prepare the patient to return home and enjoy life again.
- Social worker - Social workers provide individual and group sessions, family counseling and will act as your advocate in planning your discharge from the hospital.
- Registered nurse - A nurse will implement, monitor and evaluate treatments and/or medications prescribed by your doctor. He or she will also provide you and your family with education on topics such as nutrition and medication.
- Occupational therapist - Your occupational therapist will evaluate your individual needs and will develop a treatment plan reflecting your goals. They will provide education individually and in a group setting to support the implementation of coping strategies and healthy habits for your return to daily living.
- Activity therapist - This therapist leads individual and group experiences using art and music encouraging healthy emotional expression. They assist you in identifying leisure skills and involvements that will be helpful for you to regain a healthy lifestyle.
- Behavioral health technician - Your behavioral health technician assists as needed for your basic care needs and supports you in achieving your therapeutic goals.
