Patients Cheer Each Other On at Northwest Healthcare’s Cardiac Rehab
10/30/2024
“They call me the cheerleader here,” says Bob as yet another friend walks by to congratulate him on his graduation from Northwest Medical Center’s cardiac rehab department.
Where he sits – surrounded by exercise equipment designed to help heart patients regain and build on their cardiac function – Bob is something of an expert. He’s had six heart attacks and an upper thoracic aneurysm – and, on top of those, a bad fall earlier this year.
Over the years, Bob has addressed his chronic heart disease with many procedures and surgeries – including a triple bypass, a pacemaker, an aortic valve replacement and 17 separate stents.
His cardiologist in the Midwest suggested he move to Arizona for the benefits the weather and air would likely have on his cardiovascular system.
“I didn’t think I’d make it to 70,” says Bob, who turns 80 next year. “But I’ve kept at it, and I find cardiac rehab to be a great complement to my heart care. I love the classes at cardiac rehab – the teacher, Denise, explains how the heart works and how it gets fixed. She’s amazing. She talks to you, and not the blackboard.”
Congratulations to Bob – and all his friends – for cheering themselves and each another along the journey to recovery. Northwest Healthcare thanks each and every one of them for demonstrating a firm commitment to recovery, step by inspiring step!
