Tucson, Ariz. — Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospital announce two nurses have been selected to receive the Nursing Excellence Award.
This peer-nominated award, created in honor of 2020 being the “Year of the Nurse,” and in recognition of the critical role nurses have played in treating patients throughout the COVID pandemic, was open to qualifying RNs and LPNs working in a direct patient care position who consistently demonstrate characteristics synonymous with nursing excellence.
Traci Reid, RN from Northwest Medical Center, and Cathy Flores, RN from Oro Valley Hospital were chosen for their outstanding contributions.
“Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospital are fortunate to have many outstanding nurses like Traci and Cathy among our ranks. Nurses who deliver exemplary care, compassion and service, who understand the importance of teamwork and mentoring others, who can lead in times of crisis, and who are true champions of promoting healthcare in our community,” said Jennifer Schomburg, Chief Executive Officer of Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospital.
“With so much focus this year on the selfless efforts of front line heroes like Traci and Cathy, we are so proud to recognize the accomplishments of these two outstanding nurses,” said Schomburg.
Reid jointed Northwest Medical Center in 2009; Flores has worked for Oro Valley Hospital since 1998.
In addition to receiving the Nursing Excellence Award itself, Reid and Flores both received a crystal trophy, cash prize and a book on nursing, written by Florence Nightingale in 1859, that remains relevant to today’s modern nursing attitudes and skills.
