Northwest Medical Center Nurse Jessica Sauer Receives National Award for Nursing Excellence
12/29/2022
TUCSON, AZ – Northwest Healthcare’s local hospitals recently honored four exceptional nurses with its Nursing Excellence Award for 2022.
The peer-nominated award was created to honor the critical role nurses have played in treating patients throughout the pandemic.
Eligible nominees included RNs and LPNs working in direct patient care who consistently demonstrated characteristics of nursing excellence: outstanding care, compassion, service and innovation. They must also have shown commitment to being a team player and/or a mentor, leading others in times of crisis and regularly promoting health in the community.
The recipients are:
- Sophia Ho, R.N., of Oro Valley Hospital
- Karen Dytko, R.N., of Northwest Medical Center Houghton
- Tina Burgess, R.N., of Northwest Medical Center Sahuarita
- Jessica Sauer, R.N., who has been with Northwest Healthcare for a decade and currently works in the ICU, received the highest honor – the National 2022 Nursing Excellence Award. She is one of only 10 national winners.
Sauer was surprised with the recognition at an early-morning celebration with hospital leadership. She received a crystal plaque, a cash award and congratulatory remarks from Brian Sinotte, FACHE, market CEO of Northwest Healthcare.
“Jessica – along with Sophia, Karen and Tina – has shown herself to be caring, compassionate and skilled – a team player and a mentor,” Sinotte said.
“She collaborates not only with her colleagues, but with her patients as well, which means she delivers safe, high-quality care every day she walks through the doors,” he continued. “One especially amazing thing about Jessica is that she’s always a calm presence in high-stress situations.”
In addition to the Nursing Excellence Award and cash prize, Sauer received a copy of “Shining the Light on All the Right – Celebrating the Art of Nursing Around the World” by Mark and Bonnie Barnes, co-founders of The DAISY Foundation, an international movement created to recognize and express gratitude for extraordinary nursing.
